Another hot topic

Another hot topic was the status of the minnows and whether they should be at the World Cup. The biggest problem with the minnows is their bowling. In general they have no bowlers of genuine pace and often possess a string of slow trundlers, as distinct from spinners. It's very hard to improve at a rapid rate if your bowling attack is cannon fodder for the major nations

Angry Ricky Ponting

The team bus and the dressing room are the two places where a player feels free to express himself as befits his mood. If you can't unleash some of your frustration and anger in the dressing room then where? If an explosion leads to unintentional property damage then what is required is an apology and an offer to pay the price for unleashing your anger. A batsman losing his cool after a dismissal is a sign that he cares about his performance. In that moment when the anger boils over you're not thinking about what you might break,

Shoaib the Rawalpindi Express

In the 21st over, Shoaib produced a crafty offcutter, slightly slower and darting in from outside off, to breach the defences of Mahela Jayawardene and leave Sri Lanka stuttering at 95 for 3. In the next, Afridi, who had earlier removed Tillakaratne Dilshan with a skidding delivery, ripped a loopy leg break that dipped rapidly on Thilan Samaraweera, who was sucked out of his crease and left stranded as Kamran Akmal effected a smart stumping. Akmal later missed two leg-side stumping chances to let off Kumar Sangakkara, on 22 and 33, off Abdur Rehman

Exhibition of high-quality cricket in Colombo

Anyone out there who still thinks Pakistan are not dangerous contenders for the World Cup? With tremendous poise and skill in the middle overs, Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan propelled Pakistan, who were on a tricky 105 for 2 in the 21st over, to a strong 277, before Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akthar produced bits of magic to derail the chase. Chamara Silva threatened to pull off a thrilling heist with a flurry of boundaries, and Nuwan Kulasekara made one heroic last-ditch effort to reduce the equation to 18 runs from the final over. Umar Gul, however, held his nerve to steer Pakistan home and end a mesmeric exhibition of high-quality cricket in Colombo

Recognize and prompt visa oppertunity

As with the introduction of any new technology, it may take time for everyone to get used to the new system and some merchants may be unclear as to how to treat cards issued from overseas. Please be assured that merchant terminals are designed to recognize and prompt appropriately, and you should still be able to sign a transaction receipt.

Immigration departments

Getting a visa takes time.  Filling in the necessary paperwork, providing the relevant documents and proof of identity plus waiting for immigration authorities to process your application – it all adds up.  Securing a work permit can take anything from a few months to a few years depending on the nation you want to move to.  Be prepared to wait and note that most immigration departments are notoriously slow.  Unless you know someone who can push it through a fast-track route you’re going to have to be patient.

Visa cardholders

Visa is aware that some merchants in France have mistakenly refused to accept Visa cards issued by foreign banks because the cards do not carry a chip, or require a signature instead of a PIN for the chip transaction. Visa cardholders can continue to use their chip or magnetic stripe cards while travelling and should still be able to sign a transaction receipt

The new UK policy

The new UK policy, however, does not apply to overseas travellers with magnetic stripe cards.  All merchants displaying a Visa logo are required to accept any form of Visa payment that is presented to them.  In the UK, this means merchants will continue to accept foreign-issued, non-chip and PIN cards as before. Visa is committed to enforcing this policy to helping maintain cardholder trust and confidence in Visa's promise of unsurpassed global acceptance.

Television commentator

Someone else who was at risk of having his prepared food go bad was television commentator and former England opener Geoffrey Boycott, who had brought his own meal with him. He had suffered from throat cancer and caters for his specific eating needs. "I don't eat curries, which is what they normally give you. So I bring sandwiches. Anything which is spicy just burns," he said. Police wanted him to leave the sandwiches outside but Boycott wouldn't budge. "I said, 'I want to speak to the general or the brigadier, whoever's in charge, 'cause I'm taking my bloody sandwiches in'." An official came to Boycott's rescue and ensured he was able to take his sandwiches with him.

"It's a long tournament, trends will develop and some of people's pre-conceived notions would eventually go away. With such strong performances by the associate teams, I'm sure demand will rise," Bhatia said

Ponting Damage LCD

"When Ponting was run out, he was perhaps frustrated. He threw his gloves straight at the TV," Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Rajesh Patel said.
"It was an LCD TV, which was properly damaged. We could not view anything so I had to replace it immediately. "An Australian team captain should not behave in this manner."
Ponting is attempting to become the first skipper to achieve the feat of winning three World Cup titles in a row.

Modern Cricket

Warwick Armstrong was a colossus of a man - at one stage weighing 140 kilograms bound in a six-foot frame - and his footprint on Australian cricket was correspondingly large. During a first class career that spanned almost 25 years he accumulated more than 16000 runs and 800 wickets. In fact, so prominent was Armstrong’s presence in Australian cricket that it was once proposed by English writer Sir Neville Cardus that Australian cricket was ‘incarnate in him.’ A book review by Barry Nicholls that gives us some insight into The Big Ship
